You²
2008 · Surveillance camera, projector, mirror and live video transmission
Silas Emmery and Marie Kølbæk Iversen
You² connects two separate spaces through live video, projection and reflection. Presented at Karrierebar, the work allows viewers to encounter their own image reflected from another location, creating a layered exchange between physical presence and its transmitted image.
Simultaneous filming and transmission establish a visual connection between the audience at Karrierebar and an artist situated elsewhere. Through a sequence of projections and a physical mirror held by the artist, images of the gathering are reflected and transmitted back to the viewers.
The mirror introduces a physical gesture into this exchange. Although absent from the audience’s immediate surroundings, the artist can intervene in how that space becomes visible. Viewers encounter their own reflection as it appears in another place, returned through the projected image.
You² explores how perception and presence extend across connected spaces. The audience occupies the room while also appearing elsewhere as an image, becoming both observer and subject within a shared visual circuit.
